The Town of Mountain Village, Colorado, is located on the "Telluride Ski Mountain" in the Uncompahgre National Forest at an elevation of 9500 feet. A vision of alpine elegance has inspired the Mountain Village. This European-style village tempts guests with the best of everything in the Telluride region. The Mountain Village sits high above the historic Town of Telluride and encompasses approximately 2,100 acres of rolling, aspen and spruce covered mountain side. The Town is traversed throughout by ski runs. Many homes, condominiums, and hotels have direct ski run access. The alpine views from most areas of the Mountain Village are unsurpassed, thus the slogan "the most beautiful place you'll ever ski." The Town was incorporated in March 1995 as a Colorado Home Rule municipality. A three-stage gondola transportation system connects the Town of Mountain Village with the Town of Telluride. The views from the gondola are breath taking and the ride is free.

A remote boomtown established at an elevation of 8745' in the heyday of Colorado's gold and silver mining era, the Town of Telluride was incorporated in 1878. Present-day Telluride, home to the Telluride Ski Resort, is known for its summer and winter outdoor recreational opportunities, the visual and performing arts, internationally acclaimed music and film festivals, and other sport and cultural events.

The numbers don’t lie. The Wilkinson Public Library has become a cultural as well as a informational center of the community. Oak Smith, Head of Circulation, tracks library statistics related to circulation and patron use of the library. A review of the statistics since 2000, the year the current library building opened in September, follows. The statistics show a dramatic increase in circulation numbers and patrons visits that give no sign of tapering off. In fact, January of 2003 boasted the highest number of patron visits ever for the month of January. Total Number of Library Card Holders as of 2002 - 7,515
